The really exciting part about this is the UK geocoding. We've had great map api's before (google maps) but due to the ridiculous copyright strangle hold the UK post office has over the data and the terms of the license which Google has to it they have been unable to provide geocoding for the UK in their api.

Up until now you've had 2 choices when it has come to geocoding UK addresses. Screen scrape (naughty!) or pay for the postcode database (really expensive)/another 3rd party.

Hopefully this should open the doors for some cool mapping mashups which can actually be used in the UK :)

Thanks Stuart. We're really looking forward to seeing what the community builds on top of our API.

Just to confirm, Open API will work absolutely fine via Mapstraction as-is. We've got some other cool stuff to announce very soon, so keep an eye on blogs.multimap.com
