Quicktip for mac: turning capslock into control | 0 Comments

I am hoping to get my hands on a happy hackers keyboard for mac in the not too distant future. In preparation I have modified caps lock to act as the control key as this is the position on the Happy hackers keyboard. This actually makes a lot of sense to me as I find using control in it’s default position is a bit awkward. To try this out all you need to do is open sys prefs. Go to keyboard and mouse. Select the keyboard tab. Hit “modifier keys” and then change the action for capslock to control. Try it you might like it.

GNU screen: open tab in current working directory|(1)

A nice trick for having screen open a new tab in the same directory as the one you’re currently in. To use it add it to your .screenrc

# Open new window in current dir.
bind c stuff "screen -X chdir \$PWD;screen^M"
bind ^c stuff "screen -X chdir \$PWD;screen^M"

Ubuntu: add-apt-repository: command not found|(3)

When you’re using a minimal Ubuntu install if you find the ‘add-apt-repository’ command is missing (it’s useful for adding PPAs and other repositories), then simply run:

sudo apt-get install python-software-properties
