I am pleased to be able to announce that the next WSG London event is taking place at the end of this month on Wednesday 28th February from 7-9pm. We have a very fine line-up of speakers: Anne McMeekin, Niqui Merret and Mike Davies are all giving up their valuable time to be there. Yet again we are able to make this event 100% free thanks to the speakers and the generosity of the venue.

I’m really looking forward to this one, and I hope that you can join us. For more information and to book your place please visit the mini-site.

Please note places are limited to 200 so please sign-up as soon as you can.

Prizes for Questions

As before at the WSG microformats event we will be holding a Q&A session at the end of the night. For every question that’s asked we’ll have a small prize, so be thinking up the questions you’d like to ask our speakers whilst they are presenting.

WSG London is now lubricated with Event Wax

For this event I’m making use of Event Wax for registration. The registration sign-up is simplicity itself. All that’s required is a name and an email address. By using Event Wax there’s no dependency on attendees being members of Upcoming.org and at the same time it makes registering for as many tickets as you need dead easy. Thanks to Patrick and Dan and everyone at eventwax for building this app, it fits the bill perfectly.

Would like to come but the date clashes with the Sussex Geek Dinner on the same evening. Would it be possible to provide the speaker’s slides after the event so that I can view with the podcast? Thanks

GNU screen: open tab in current working directory|(1)

A nice trick for having screen open a new tab in the same directory as the one you’re currently in. To use it add it to your .screenrc

# Open new window in current dir.
bind c stuff "screen -X chdir \$PWD;screen^M"
bind ^c stuff "screen -X chdir \$PWD;screen^M"

Ubuntu: add-apt-repository: command not found|(2)

When you’re using a minimal Ubuntu install if you find the ‘add-apt-repository’ command is missing (it’s useful for adding PPAs and other repositories), then simply run:

sudo apt-get install python-software-properties
