A medicinal revolution. | Comments (3)

No this isn’t a post about how you can increase the size of your crown jewels. I’ve been an Asthmatic all of my life, this means for me every day means at some point I will suffer from shortness of breath, particularly from any level of exercise. For example my daily walk to and from the station always had me reaching for my Ventolin (salbutamol) reliever inhaler. This drug has been a prop for me for many years and I had come to totally an utterly rely on it to the point that I was using it far too much than is good for you; as it tends to accelerate your heart rate every time you use it.
Anyway, to get to the point in my last asthma review I’ve been prescribed a new inhaler. Instead of the Becotide (beclomethasone) steroid I now have a new inhaler called Seretide. Seretide contains two active ingredients, fluticasone propionate and salmeterol. The first is a more effective steroid replacing the becotide and one is a “protector” that keeps your airways open for up to 12 hours. I’ve been using this for 4 days now and the difference has been nothing short of a revolution. I haven’t used my Ventolin (salbutamol) reliever once. For me this is like someone has flicked a switch and turned off my asthma symptoms.

I really should ask my doctor about this. My asthma is pretty calm in the summer months, but once the winter months hit and things get frosty, I find myself reaching for my Ventolin far too many times in the run of a day.
Thanks for posting this Stuart, I just hope that Seretide is available over here in Canada.
@Jeff: You’re welcome. I was really surprised by the difference Seretide has made so I would definitely recommend asking if you can try it.
That’s great news. I am glad to hear that you are feeling like a new man. I have allergies to a number of things, so I know the feeling of not being able to catch your breath.
