Watch the Apple Keynote address | Comments (3)

Posted in Snippets on 8th August 2006, 12:28 am by Stuart

You can watch the WorldWide Developers Conference Keynote address from apple’s site (requires quicktime). Having gone through the highlight’s on many of the apple blogs, the most exciting news for leopard is that it’s going to have a proper virtual desktops tool called spaces and some useful productivity enhancements to mail. I’m also looking forward to checking out the “time machine“, a tool that enables you to recover lost files and go back in time to a previous system state. On the hardware front the 64bit Mac Pro looks pretty hot.

I was hoping to be able to watch the Kynote on my iPod on the way into work this morning, but alas there’s no easy clickable link for me to do that on the Apple site. Oh well - I’ll just have to wait until I get home tonight to give it a watch.

I’m not exactly “excited” about Spaces or The Time Machine, but they are the two things that I think will be the biggest boost to me in Leopard. Virtual Desktops are something that I’ve wanted built into OSX for the longest time, and being able to do nice automatic backups without having to think about it is obviously A Good Thing.

And yes, I’ve had a bit of a drool over the Mac Pro as well.

@Neil: Yes I wonder where the inspiration came for virtual desktops? :-)

I’ve always loved using virtual desktops on linux and often lamented the lack of them on Mac OSX.

Thought I’m not a Mac user (yet!) I always fine these keynote speeches fascinating - and this was no exception. Some amazing hardware and software available there - just saving my pennies now!

Standalone mac battery charger|(0)

Got a spare mac battery? I’ve often wondered why up until now no-one’s produced a standalone charger so that you can charge batteries without having to plug them into the mac. Fortunately Fastmac.com have produced a standalone charger that allows you to do just that. and it’s compatible with iBooks, Powerbooks, macbooks and Macbook Pros. It’s also 110/200v. Exactly what I was looking for!
