Opera 9 released | 0 Comments

Opera 9 was released yesterday. I tested it out on the Mac and I liked some of the new features. Anne van Kesteren has all of the more interesting technical changes listed, aside from those it’s really all just added gloss. Things like the widgets implementation are a little pointless unless I’ve missed a benefit they bring by having them running from within Opera? Don’t let that detract from what is still a very good browser. With all of the work going into it and the fact that it’s been free for some time now, it’s well worth checking out if you didn’t already have it installed for testing purposes!

Post Tools

GNU screen: open tab in current working directory|(1)

A nice trick for having screen open a new tab in the same directory as the one you’re currently in. To use it add it to your .screenrc

# Open new window in current dir.
bind c stuff "screen -X chdir \$PWD;screen^M"
bind ^c stuff "screen -X chdir \$PWD;screen^M"

Ubuntu: add-apt-repository: command not found|(3)

When you’re using a minimal Ubuntu install if you find the ‘add-apt-repository’ command is missing (it’s useful for adding PPAs and other repositories), then simply run:

sudo apt-get install python-software-properties
