Moving hosts: one more time with feeling | Comments (2)

Posted in Muffin Research Labs on 13th April 2006, 9:47 pm by Stuart

I’ve been with Dreamhost about 20 days and in within that time I have witness over 3hours of total server outage. To that end I have decided to go back to the dedicated server which I was originally on as it has now been fixed and is running much better with the full complement of 512Mb of memory.

If you are reading this then everything has been successfully transferred.

Stuart,

I have almost completely moved all my sites to Dreamhost…no complaints at this point. Of course my previous host (not named…at least until I can finish getting the rest of my sites off their server) has left a lot of bad taste in my mouth…almost anything would be better at this point. This may just be the way of it with shared hosting.

Fair enough, there are a lot of people that are happy with Dreamhost and that’s what attracted me in the first place.

However, having been with them for only a few weeks and seeing 3 hours downtime didn’t exactly fill me with confidence. I am going to stick with this dedicated box for now and when it comes up for renewal I am going to take a look at Media Temple.

Using Loggerhead with mod_wsgi|(0)

Here’s a post I wrote over on the Project Fondue Blog about our use of Loggerhead with mod_wsgi under Apache. Loggerhead is the rather nice branch viewer for bazaar branches as used on Launchpad.net.

If you’re not already subscribed to the Project Fondue blog feed then I can recommend it, as there should be some interesting posts coming out of there in the coming months (yes I’m unashamedly biased!).

Ubuntu: Turn off changing workspace with mouse wheel|(1)

I found the changing with the workspace with the mouse wheel really annoying. To disable it go to System => Preferences => CompizConfig (available if the compizconfig-settings-manager package is installed) and uncheck “Viewport Switcher” which is under the “Desktop” heading.
