Regarding the comment about designers needing to be more than &quot;purely graphical,&quot; I agree to some extent. Sure, understanding the possibilities and the limits in a given medium (in this case the Web) will help a designer do a better job. I think the collaboration and effective communication between specialists is the more important issue. 

An amazing designer teamed with an amazing technical expert (coder)  -- and a healthy give-and-take between the two -- will yield, in my opinion, something much greater than can be achieved by someone trying to understand it all. Jack of all trades, master of none, you know?

Having the &quot;split&quot; allows people to really develop a skill-set and/or talent. It is important to have specialization, but also an understanding of factors that shape or are shaped by one&#039;s specialty.</description>
