News: Moving on to pastures new and back-up mx | 0 Comments

Posted in Linux/Unix on 20th October 2004, 7:27 am by

I am pleased to announce that I am moving on to a new job in November. This new job is a php web development role, so I will be getting the opportunity to hone my php skills much further. I am hoping that I will get the time to continue to develop this blog script as I have lots of changes in the pipeline.

Other news is that I am soon to be updating the backup mailserver guide available in the linux section. The latest version has completely cracked the nut on how to make it possible to read the mail coming into your back-up mx while the main server is down.

Post Tools

GNU screen: open tab in current working directory|(1)

A nice trick for having screen open a new tab in the same directory as the one you’re currently in. To use it add it to your .screenrc

# Open new window in current dir.
bind c stuff "screen -X chdir \$PWD;screen^M"
bind ^c stuff "screen -X chdir \$PWD;screen^M"

Ubuntu: add-apt-repository: command not found|(2)

When you’re using a minimal Ubuntu install if you find the ‘add-apt-repository’ command is missing (it’s useful for adding PPAs and other repositories), then simply run:

sudo apt-get install python-software-properties
